Avocado Green Cambie Dress

Well, I finally got on the Cambie bandwagon with my first Sewaholic pattern, Sewaholic 1202 the Cambie dress.

I made the a-line version of the Cambie in avocado green stretch cotton broadcloth purchased from Fabric Mart.  I have actually made two of these thus far (I will show the other one soon!) and this was my first one, although I did not finish it until a couple of weeks ago.  Sewaholic patterns do not go up to my size, so I had to grade it and graded it a size too small…. so I had to take it apart, cut a new skirt and sew it again.  When I made my second Cambie, I graded it correctly and did not have the problems like I had with this one.  Since I had been making this prior to our vacation in May, I stopped working on it when I realized what I had to do it and finished it when we returned.

I love the 60’s style of this dress and the pattern is a great one to work with.  I’m definitely going to be buying another Sewaholic pattern.  My favorite features are the sweetheart neckline and the cap sleeves.  For my other Cambie, I made the full skirted version and I am even more in love with that.  But I’m always in love with a full, twirly skirt. :)

I added a belt to my dress, along with pale yellow grosgrain ribbon above the hemline and on my belt.  I am planning on wearing this to an Oakland A’s game later this month, and as I am a SF Giants fan and not an A’s fan, I am going to wear colors similar to the teams instead of full on A’s gear.

This pattern calls for an invisible zipper and I exposed mine a bit so that the yellow of the zip would be a bit visible, which perfectly coordinated with the grosgrain ribbon.

I used up some old pieces of fabric that I had and lined part of the bodice with yellow polka dot silk/cotton voile and the rest is lined in cotton batiste.  I love how this dress looks as good inside as it does on the outside.

This pattern is truly a keeper!  I’m planning to make one for my MIL and aunt as well.  It goes together well and looks great and the pattern instructions are easy to follow.  Plus, I’d say that this dress looks great on pretty much everyone.

Happy Sewing, friends!
